The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, is a novel about how society’s expectations of women often push them to the breaking point, leading them to seek out (or fall victim to) dangerous situations.
Summary:
Paula Hawkins follows three women who are abused by the men in their lives in the form of what’s called gaslighting: manipulation through questioning or invalidating a person’s sanity.
It details the struggles of Rachel Watson, the protagonist, as she navigates divorce, alcohol use disorder, and losing her job. During Rachel’s daily commute on the train in London, England, she watches a couple whom she names Jess and Jason.
